A search warrant executed by the Douglas-Coffee Drug Unit and D.I.C.E. Unit on October 14 resulted in Duarte Woodbury’s arrest. Agents seized methamphetamine, prescription pills, three firearms, and U.S. currency.

A Coffee County Jail inmate died October 6 after injuries sustained in a September 24 altercation. Sheriff Cole requested an independent GBI investigation. The case remains ongoing.

The GBI arrested William Jerry Minix II, 43, of Nicholls, on a charge of Sexual Battery Against a Child Under 16 following a CCSO-requested investigation. The investigation remains active. No one is above the law.

Registered sex offender James Edward Claxton was arrested after a CCSO investigation found he failed to register a vehicle for more than three months. Sheriff Cole says registry violations will not be overlooked.

After 28 years, an arrest has been made in the 1998 murder of Christy Myers. On October 1, 2026, GBI agents, along with the Coffee County Sheriff’s Office and Irwin County Sheriff’s Office, arrested 47-year-old James Lawrence III in Irwin County. Lawrence remains in the Coffee County Jail awaiting adjudication. The investigation remains active and ongoing. The arrest is an accusation, and he is presumed innocent until convicted by a court of law.

CCSO and the Douglas-Coffee Drug Unit made three September meth arrests, recovering suspected meth ranging from 1.1 to 28+ grams. Sheriff Cole and Chief Pruette remain clear: meth has no place in Coffee County. No amount. No exceptions.

CCSO detectives investigated an alleged sexual offense reported six years later, leading to the arrest of 75-year-old David Kirkland on one count of Child Molestation. Sheriff Cole reminds victims: it’s never too late to speak up.

Two separate, unrelated arrests were made this month by the DCDU involving Cameron Dale Pierce and Sheila Dunnon for possession of suspected methamphetamine. Sheriff Cole’s message is clear: STOP USING IT. STOP SELLING IT.

Charlie Franklin Stevens was sentenced to 60 years in Pierce County and 40 years in Coffee County, with both sentences served concurrently. CCSO says the outcome reflects continued efforts to protect children and hold offenders accountable daily.

Coffee County Investigators arrested 32-year-old Johnny Wendell Tarrant following an investigation into an elderly family member’s debit card.

Investigators allege 36 transactions transferred approximately $3,095 from the account.

Tarrant faces 37 felony charges and is presumed innocent until proven guilty.

Douglas Coffee Drug Unit Agents arrested Kendall McDuffie, 42, of Eastman following an investigation that led to the seizure of suspected crack cocaine. McDuffie was charged with Trafficking in Cocaine and remains in custody at the Coffee County Jail.

Coffee County Sheriff's Office Agents assisted the Blackshear Police Department in locating and arresting two suspects wanted in an armed robbery. The suspects were safely taken into custody in Coffee County and turned over to Blackshear authorities without incident.
