Ware County Man Lead Deputies on 124MPH chase

Laquavious Tequan Douglas, 24, Waycross, GA

On October 20, 2026, deputies with the Coffee County Sheriff’s Office attempted to stop a vehicle matching the description of one involved in a reported altercation on Jeff Lewis Road. The driver, identified as Laquavious Tequan Douglas of Waycross, refused to stop and fled from deputies.

During the pursuit, Douglas drove on the wrong side of the roadway, traveled through an active school zone, and reached speeds of approximately 124 mph, endangering other motorists and the public. Agents with the D.I.C.E. Unit joined the pursuit and performed a Precision Immobilization Technique (PIT) maneuver near Riverbend Estate Road, bringing the pursuit to an end when Douglas’s vehicle overturned.

The incident forced the northbound lanes of Highway 441 to close for approximately one hour, causing traffic delays and disrupting the normal flow of traffic.

Douglas was taken for medical evaluation and, after being medically cleared, transported to the Coffee County Jail.

Douglas faces charges including felony fleeing or attempting to elude a law enforcement officer, reckless driving, failure to maintain lane, and driving on the wrong side of the roadway.

Under O.C.G.A. 40-6-395, felony fleeing or attempting to elude can carry one to five years of imprisonment when the statutory conditions for felony treatment are met. Reckless driving under O.C.G.A. 40-6-390 is a misdemeanor punishable by up to 12 months in jail and a fine of up to $1,000. Additional penalties may apply to the remaining traffic offenses.

Sheriff Fred Cole issued a direct warning:

“If you come to Coffee County, you better come with the right attitude and be ready to abide by the law. If you choose otherwise, you can quickly check in for an extended stay at the Cole Inn & Suites. We will not tolerate reckless behavior that puts our citizens, our children, or our deputies at risk.”

Douglas is presumed innocent until convicted by a court of law.

Northbound lanes of 441 were closed for 1 hour
