Divisions of the Sheriff’s Office
Civil Service - Captain Steven Paulk
Office of the Sheriff - Sheriff Fred T. Cole
The Georgia Constitution requires that every county has a sheriff, who is recognized by law as the primary law enforcement officer for that county. The sheriff holds the power to step in and take action in any law enforcement situation within the county if he believes it is necessary. This authority includes responding to incidents initiated by his deputies when they observe a legal infraction or when there is no local police officer present.
The Georgia Constitution mandates that all county sheriffs provide security for the courthouses to protect judges, jurors, witnesses, and others who work at or visit our facilities. Coffee County Sheriff’s Officers are charged with the responsibility of maintaining the integrity of the judicial process by ensuring a safe and secure environment in and around the court houses. To meet these responsibilities the Coffee County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) deploys trained, sworn Sheriff’s deputies and civilian bailiffs who are assigned to points of entry security screening stations, courtrooms, and security details at the three facilities.
Court Operations provide security and protective services at the two locations which comprise the nexus of court services in Coffee County Courthouse located at 101 S. Peterson Ave. Douglas, GA 31533 and the Civil Court facility located at 825 Thompson Dr. in Douglas Georgia
