COFFEE COUNTY — The Coffee County Sheriff’s Office and Douglas-Coffee Drug Unit are sending a clear message: methamphetamine is not welcome in Coffee County. No amount. No exceptions.

Three separate enforcement actions in September resulted in arrests involving suspected methamphetamine ranging from approximately 1.1 grams to more than 28 grams.

On September 22, the D.I.C.E. Unit stopped Cody Snoddy near Highway 221 North and Jeff Lewis Road for alleged failure to maintain lane. A K-9 alerted on the vehicle, and approximately 3.8 grams of suspected methamphetamine were recovered. Snoddy was charged with possession of methamphetamine.

In a separate traffic stop in the Dead Oak/Hickory Ridge area, Russell Smith was found in possession of approximately 1.1 grams of suspected methamphetamine. Smith was arrested and charged with possession of methamphetamine.

In a third and separate investigation, the Douglas-Coffee Drug Unit encountered Adrian Clemmons at a residence on Weeks Road while investigating the alleged sale of methamphetamine. Investigators recovered more than 28 grams of suspected methamphetamine, more than three ounces of marijuana, two firearms, and cash. Clemmons was charged with trafficking methamphetamine and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony.

Under Georgia law, possession of methamphetamine is a felony offense and can result in significant prison time upon conviction. Trafficking methamphetamine carries substantially more severe penalties. Possession of 28 grams or more can constitute trafficking and carries a mandatory minimum 10-year prison sentence and $200,000 fine for amounts between 28 and 200 grams.

Sheriff Cole's stance on meth has not changed,  no amount of methamphetamine will be tolerated. Not on our highways. Not in our neighborhoods. Not in our homes. Not anywhere in coffee county.

Chief Brannen Pruette, echoes that same stance, Methamphetamine has no place in Douglas. The Douglas Police Department, alongside our law enforcement partners, remains committed to protecting our community and addressing illegal drug activity. We will continue working together to keep Douglas safe.

Coffee County is NO SAFE HAVEN for illegal drugs.
