On Monday, September 22, 2025, a K9 Unit and detective with the Douglas Coffee Drug Unit conducted a traffic stop on a moped in the Sand Ridge area. The driver was identified as Michael Ashley.

Traffic Stop Results in DUI Arrest and Drug Seizure
On September 28, 2025, at approximately 3:37 a.m., deputies with the Coffee County Sheriff’s Office observed a 2008 Nissan Sentra exemplifying erratic behavior on New Forest HWY. Deputies conducted a welfare check on the driver, identified as 20 year old Nelson Perez Carrillo.
Sheriff’s Office Solves One-Year-Old Wedding Day Theft
Investigators say Cristal Arguello Valle, who attended the ceremony last November as a family friend and assisted the bride with her make-up, took the rings just before the bride walked down the aisle. Valle then abruptly left the event.
Coffee County Woman Arrested for Family Violence
During the investigation, deputies determined that a verbal argument between a mother and her child escalated into a physical altercation. Abby Gail Fernandez told deputies that she indeed backhanded the minor; officers observed several pieces of jewelry on the hand in which Fernandez used that were consistent with the juvenile’s visible sustained injuries; that were also consistent with the statements provided to deputies on scene by the minor.

On September 17, 2025, the Coffee County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a sexual assault. Following an immediate and thorough investigation by the Coffee County Sheriff's Office Criminal Investigations Division, investigators determined that a sexual assault had occurred.
Tallahassee Man Arrested in Coffee County on Felony Drug Charges
Deputies responded to a business on North Highway 221 and found a male subject reportedly slumped over the wheel of a vehicle. The subject was identified as Matthew Clay Chitty, age 55, of Tallahassee, Florida. During the investigation, Chitty admitted to occasional methamphetamine use and consented to a search of his vehicle.
Domestic Dispute Leads to Arrest of Pedro Guzman Hernandez; Deputies Seize AK-47 Style Rifle
According to statements, Hernandez retrieved a firearm during the dispute. Deputies located a ROMARM AK-47 style rifle, which was collected as evidence.
Coffee County Woman Charged with Sex Offender Registry Violation
Linda Steedley, who had previously registered in Coffee County as homeless, was found residing in an outbuilding at a church property without notifying authorities of her change in residence.
Theft charges for items stolen from Helene damaged property
On August 15, 2025, around 10:40 p.m., deputies responded to a report of theft at a property in Coffee County. The property, which included a residence damaged by Hurricane Helene and an adjacent shelter, had been unlawfully entered.
Hit and Run Suspect Arrested Following Two Incidents in Coffee County
On Friday, August 15, 2025, deputies with the Coffee County Sheriff’s Office responded to a hit and run accident near Old Axson Highway and McKinnon Road. The collision involved a pickup truck pulling a trailer and a school bus transporting more than twenty school-age children. Fortunately, no serious injuries were reported. The Georgia State Patrol (GSP) was called to investigate the crash.
High Speed Chase leads to arrest
The driver, later identified as Raul Sendejas, refused to stop and led deputies on a pursuit reaching speeds of up to 90 miles per hour. During the chase, Sendejas disregarded multiple stop signs, drove recklessly through county roads, and ultimately lost control after driving off an embankment near 250 Vine Road.
Two Arrested on Drug and Firearm Charges
On Wednesday, August 6, 2025, at approximately 8:45 a.m., Detectives with the Douglas-Coffee County Drug Unit executed a search warrant at a residence located near Cobblestone Road in Douglas, Georgia, in reference to ongoing investigations into suspected narcotics distribution at the location.

68 year old Larry Wiggins was charged under Georgia State Law 16-9-20(b)(3), relating to felony-level deposit account fraud for amounts of $1,500 or more.
Coffee County Man Arrested for Family Violence
Teston had been drinking when he began damaging property inside the home and verbally belittling the victim. He ultimately struck the victim in the face with an open hand. Deputies observed visible swelling consistent with the victim’s account.
Local sex offender arrested for Proximity Law Violation
The investigation began when the Sex Offender Unit received a tip Tuesday afternoon indicating that Tarlton was employed at a location within close proximity to a place of worship. Detectives promptly followed up and confirmed that Tarlton was working in an area that violated the restrictions placed on registered sex offenders in the state of Georgia.
Drug Trafficking Arrest Results in Serious Charges; Sheriff Issues Stern Warning to Offenders
As a result, Christopher Brent Johnson was arrested and charged with the following offenses: Trafficking Methamphetamine, in violation of OCGA 16-13-31. Possession of a Schedule II Controlled Substance with Intent to Distribute (Fentanyl), in violation of OCGA 16-13-30(b)
Johnson was transported to the Coffee County Pre-Trial Detention Center, where he remains in custody pending judicial proceedings.
DRUG UNIT INTERCEPTS CONTRABAND ENTERING PRE-TRIAL DETENTION CENTER
On June 21, 2025, personnel at the Coffee County Law Enforcement Center (LEC) intercepted critical information involving a planned delivery of contraband, intended to be smuggled into the Coffee County Pre-Trial Detention Center by a staff member.
