DCDU Uncovers 11 Grams of Meth On A traffic stop in Douglas

COFFEE COUNTY, Ga. On July 7, 2026, the Douglas Coffee Drug Unit was dispatched to assist in a traffic stop that was initiated after the vehicle was observed with illegally tinted windows in violation of Georgia law. During the encounter, the driver identified as Tony Hatch Harper displayed signs of nervous behavior and advised that he did not have a driver's license in his possession.

While investigating the traffic violation, Harper acknowledged that a marijuana "roach" was inside the vehicle, at which point agents conducted a search of the vehicle .

During the search, investigators recovered suspected methamphetamine and suspected marijuana from inside the vehicle. Harper also advised investigators that he had additional methamphetamine concealed on his person. The suspected methamphetamine recovered during the investigation weighed approximately 11 grams, which exceeds Georgia's trafficking threshold for methamphetamine possession with intent to distribute.

Agents with the Douglas Coffee Drug Unit (DCDU) responded and continued the investigation. After being advised of his rights, Harper was arrested and charged with:

• Window Glazing Violation (Tinted Windows), OCGA 40-8-73.1

• Manufacture, Deliver, Distribute, or Possess With Intent to Distribute Controlled Substances in Schedule I or II, OCGA 16-13-30

The suspected methamphetamine was submitted for forensic analysis, and Harper was transported to the Coffee County Jail.

All suspects are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
