Traffic Stop Results in Methamphetamine Arrest

Christopher Dale Burkett, 47, Douglas, Ga

COFFEE COUNTY, Ga. On July 7, 2026, an Agent with the Coffee County Sheriff's Office Drug Interdiction and Criminal Enforcement (D.I.C.E.) Unit conducted a traffic stop on a Chevrolet pickup truck after observing multiple traffic violations on Barrington Road.

The driver was identified as Christopher Dale Burkett. During the investigation, deputies confirmed Burkett's driver's license was suspended.

A Coffee County Sheriff's Office K-9 Deputy and a Douglas Coffee Drug Unit Detective responded to assist. The K-9 conducted a free air sniff of the vehicle and alerted to the presence of suspected illegal narcotics, providing probable cause to search the vehicle.

During the search, deputies located a quantity of suspected methamphetamine concealed inside a compartment of the truck.

Burkett was arrested and charged with Driving While License Suspended or Revoked in violation of Georgia Code 40-5-121 and Possession of Methamphetamine in violation of Georgia Code 16-13-30.

Sheriff Fred Cole emphasized that law enforcement will continue to aggressively target illegal drug activity throughout Coffee County.

"If you choose to transport illegal drugs through Coffee County, you better know that our deputies are watching and  the D.I.C.E. Unit will seek you out. We will use every lawful tool available to keep these drugs off our streets. If that is the life you want to live… do somewhere other than Coffee County because it’s not welcomed here.”

Christopher Dale Burkett is presumed innocent until convicted.
