Watkins claimed he was there to inspect for debris before grass cutting but could not provide a legitimate reason for his presence. He was transported to the Coffee County Pre-Trial Detention Center where he remains in custody.

The recent merger of the Narcotics divisions between the Coffee County Sheriff’s Office and the City of Douglas Police Department, which officially took effect on May 1, 2025, has already demonstrated significant results. On Thursday, April 24, 2025, deputies with the Coffee County Sheriff's Office (CCSO) were involved in a high-speed pursuit that began with a routine traffic stop. At approximately 8:25PM, a deputy observed a vehicle traveling without headlights after dark [which is a chargeable offense in the state of Georgia] and attempted to initiate a stop.

Broome became aggressive and confrontational and was causing property damage within the residence. Deputies observed a damaged door frame at the scene, which was attributed to Broome’s actions.

On the evening of April 21, 2025 38 year old Anthony Charles McGuffin was observed riding a bicycle against the flow of traffic which created a hazardous condition.

In the early morning hours of Sunday, April 20, an individual unlawfully entered the dealer lot of the Diamond Cargo Plant in Coffee County and removed two cargo trailers without authorization. The suspect, operating a late-model red SUV, successfully departed the premises with stolen property valued in excess of $10,000.

A routine traffic stop conducted on April 17, 2025, by a deputy with the Coffee County Sheriff’s Office has led to the recovery of two stolen vehicles, both originally reported stolen out of Houston, Texas.

On April 17, 2025, the Coffee County Sheriff's Office responded to a residence on Knollwood Road following a report of suspected animal neglect.

 On the evening of April 13, 2025, the Coffee County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a physical altercation between JOHN ASHFORD and CODY ELIJAH EDGE at a residence on Old Waycross Highway.

On April 8, 2025, deputies with the Coffee County Sheriff’s Office successfully apprehended Brittini Daine Paulk, a 40-year-old wanted felon with outstanding warrants in multiple jurisdictions across Georgia and Oklahoma. 

Deputies made contact with 21-year-old Audra Jade Dyal, who stated that she had been involved in a verbal altercation with another individual at Baker Express. According to Ms. Dyal, the individual was cussing and screaming at her, and she admitted to physically striking the individual in response to the verbal abuse.

On the evening of April 12, 2025, deputies responded to a residence near Jackson Lane regarding a disturbance involving an individual reportedly beating on a door while wearing a mask and holding what was believed to be a weapon.

On April 11, 2025, deputies with the Coffee County Sheriff’s Office arrested 47-year-old Scott Mercier in connection with a domestic dispute that led to charges of Battery – Family Violence, in violation of O.C.G.A. 16-5-23.1(f).
