Arrest Made in Domestic Battery Case
Scott Dean Mercier, 47, of Douglas
On April 11, 2025, deputies with the Coffee County Sheriff’s Office arrested 47-year-old Scott Mercier in connection with a domestic dispute that led to charges of Battery – Family Violence, in violation of O.C.G.A. 16-5-23.1(f).
Deputies responded to a residence near Heidi Lane and Stewart Lane after receiving a 911 call placed by Mercier. Upon arrival, Mercier informed deputies that he had been involved in a physical altercation with an individual at a family member’s home while attempting to pick up his brother. He claimed the individual charged at him, prompting him to strike the person with an unknown object in what he described as an act of self-defense.
However, a preliminary investigation revealed conflicting statements. Witnesses reported that Mercier entered a room within the residence where the individual was asleep and began striking them with a belt. The altercation then escalated and moved outside the home, resulting in a brief physical confrontation.
Deputies later re-interviewed Mercier at his residence, during which he admitted to initiating the encounter by entering the home and assaulting the individual prior to the altercation outside. Both parties sustained visible bruising as a result of the incident.
Mercier was taken into custody and booked into the Coffee County Pre-Trial Detention Center.
