Registered Sex Offender Arrested in Coffee County After Active Warrant Discovered
Larry David Chaney, 52, of Douglas
On May 14, 2025, the Coffee County Sheriff's Office arrested a registered sex offender during his initial registration process following his release from prison.
52 year old Larry David Chaney, a convicted sex offender, was complying with Georgia state law as outlined in O.C.G.A. 42-1-12, which mandates that individuals classified as sex offenders must register their residence and other required information with the sheriff’s office of the county in which they intend to live.
During the course of this routine registration with the Coffee County Sheriff’s Office Sex Offender Registration Unit, detectives discovered an active warrant for Chaney's arrest issued by Liberty County authorities. The warrant was related to a Failure to Appear for a traffic citation.
After detectives confirmed the validity of the warrant with authorities in Liberty County, a hold was placed on Chaney and subsequently he was arrested and taken into custody. Chaney remains in custody at the Coffee County Pre-Trial Detention Center pending transfer or further action by Liberty County officials.
The Coffee County Sheriff’s Office is notifying the public, per Georgia law, about a registered sex offender residing in the county. The individual has completed their court-imposed sentence and is not currently wanted by law enforcement. This notice is issued to promote public awareness, not fear. Georgia law prohibits registered offenders from loitering near places where minors gather, such as schools, parks, libraries, and recreation facilities.
