High Comes Back Down to Reality… Behind Bars

On February 27, 2026, Drug Agents with the Douglas-Coffee County Drug Unit responded to assist officers with the Broxton Police Department who were attempting to conduct a traffic stop on a white pickup truck. Officers had received information indicating the driver of the vehicle had an active warrant.

When officers activated their emergency lights, the vehicle failed to immediately stop and continued traveling along several roadways before ultimately coming to a halt after officers successfully blocked the roadway.

During the stop, a passenger, later identified as John High, exited the vehicle and fled on foot into a nearby wooded area. Officers pursued the individual and issued verbal commands for him to surrender. High complied with those commands and was taken into custody without further incident.

The D.I.C.E. Unit was called out for K-9 support and a search was conducted of the area where High had fled which led to the discovery of a small clear plastic bag containing suspected crack cocaine located approximately ten feet from the area where he attempted to conceal himself. Investigators observed that while the surrounding ground was wet due to earlier rainfall, the plastic bag containing the suspected narcotics remained dry, indicating it had likely been recently discarded. The suspected narcotics were secured and turned over to the Douglas-Coffee County Drug Unit for further investigation.

Following an interview with drug agents, High admitted that he fled from officers because he was in possession of the drugs.

As a result of the investigation, John High has been charged with:

  • Possession of Cocaine with Intent to Distribute in violation of Georgia Code 16-13-30(b)

  • Obstruction of a Law Enforcement Officer in violation of Georgia Code 16-10-24(a)

This case highlights the continued collaboration between the Broxton Police Department and the Douglas-Coffee County Drug Unit, whose coordinated efforts helped ensure the suspect was safely apprehended and illegal narcotics were removed from the community. Authorities remain committed to working together across jurisdictions to address criminal activity and protect the citizens of Coffee County.
