Douglas Woman arrested in Vulnerable Adult Financial Exploitation

Coffee County Sheriff’s Office Makes Arrest in Financial Exploitation Case

The Coffee County Sheriff’s Office has arrested Gloria Rush, 65, following an investigation into the alleged financial exploitation of a vulnerable adult.

Investigators determined that Rush was serving as a representative payee for an individual unable to manage his financial affairs due to mental limitations. In this role, she was authorized to use the individual’s funds only for approved living expenses and basic necessities.

A review of bank records and financial documents revealed that Rush exceeded her authority and used a portion of the funds for personal purposes over an extended period of time.

Rush was taken into custody on January 8, 2026, and charged with Theft by Conversion. She was transported to the Coffee County Jail without incident.

The investigation was conducted by the Coffee County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Division. Anyone with information related to financial exploitation or suspected abuse of a vulnerable or elderly individual is encouraged to contact the Coffee County Sheriff’s Office at 912-384-4227 or submitting a tip through the Coffee County Sheriff’s Office mobile application.
