DCDU Investigation Leads to Four Arrests

A narcotics investigation by the Douglas-Coffee Drug Unit, with assistance from the Coffee County Sheriff’s Office D.I.C.E. Unit and the Bacon County Sheriff’s Office, has resulted in the arrest of four individuals and the seizure of significant amounts of suspected fentanyl and methamphetamine.
On June 15, 2026, agents conducted a traffic stop on Michael “Shy” Spearman during an ongoing drug investigation. Spearman fled on foot but was quickly apprehended. Agents recovered approximately 28.8 grams of suspected methamphetamine and 13.4 grams of suspected fentanyl. He was charged with Trafficking in Methamphetamine and Trafficking in Fentanyl.
As the investigation continued, agents arrested Rhonda Nipper after recovering suspected methamphetamine, fentanyl, and drug paraphernalia from her residence. She was charged with Possession of Methamphetamine and Possession of Fentanyl.
Further investigation led agents to Megan Hersey and Frances Amanda Thrift. Agents recovered approximately 24.4 grams of suspected fentanyl from Hersey. Thrift was found in possession of suspected methamphetamine and fentanyl and was determined to be involved in a fentanyl transaction.
Hersey was charged with Trafficking in Fentanyl. Thrift was charged with Possession of Methamphetamine, Possession of Fentanyl, and Conspiracy to Commit Trafficking in Fentanyl.
In total, agents seized approximately 37.4 grams of suspected fentanyl and 32.9 grams of suspected methamphetamine.
Sheriff Fred T. Cole emphasized the importance of interagency cooperation in combating illegal drug activity and protecting the community. “You keep bring drugs into this community, Chief Pruett, myself and the Drug unit will keep showing you… YOU AREN’T WELCOME IN COFFEE COUNTY.”
This investigation remains active and ongoing. Additional arrests and charges are possible.
All individuals are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
