Douglas man arrested on Multiple Drug Trafficking Charges

David Burgess, 48, Douglas, Ga

On June 16, 2025, at approximately 6:11 PM, agents with the Douglas-Coffee Drug Unit conducted a traffic stop on a Buick LaCrosse traveling on GA Highway 158 East near Bowens Mill Road. The driver, David Reshard Burgess, was the subject of an active drug investigation.

During the stop, agents executed a search warrant and located a blue and orange Ruffles potato chip bag in the front passenger seat. Inside the bag, detectives discovered multiple large quantities of suspected illegal narcotics, including:

A clear plastic bag containing suspected methamphetamine

Three additional bags containing suspected:

  • MDMA (Ecstasy)

  • Powder cocaine

  • Crack cocaine

Field tests confirmed positive results for each substance. All items have been submitted to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation Crime Lab for further analysis.

As a result of the investigation, David Burgess was arrested and charged with the following offenses under Georgia law:

  • Trafficking Methamphetamine (OCGA 16 13 31)

  • Possession with Intent to Distribute MDMA (OCGA 16 13 30)

  • Possession with Intent to Distribute Powder Cocaine (OCGA 16 13 30)

  • Possession with Intent to Distribute Crack Cocaine (OCGA 16 13 30)

Burgess was transported to the Coffee County Pre-Trial Detention Center without incident.
