Patrols in Green Acres lead to multiple arrests
Over the course of several months in late 2024, Coffee County Sheriff’s Patrols were called out to the Green Acres area multiple times for prowlers, suspicious persons and other unwanted activities.Green Acres is located in the southernmost area of the county and has become a frequent area of concern in regards to drugs and theft.
In an effort to cool down the area, The Criminal Investigative Division of the Coffee County Sheriff’s office engaged in a month-long responsive and proactive operation. This operation went into effect on January 2, 2025 with multiple warrants being served. Officers were successfully able to locate and serve warrants on five individuals for multiple violations. David Cox - Probation Violation, Melissa Harper - Violation of Child Support order, Jerry Rich - Probation Violation, Michael Brooks - Violation of Child Support order - Obstruction of Law Enforcement, and Adam Gilbert - Felony Failure to Appear.
In addition to warrants being served, the CCSO executed four road blocks one of which resulted in a high speed chase ending in a single car accident.
On January 9, 2025 Ashton Miller 34 of Douglas approached the road block at the intersection of Rebecca S. Waldron Road and Waldron Road; Miller was waived down by officers and refused to stop leading officers on a brief chase. Miller took a turn onto Hidden Valley Road and lost control of the vehicle. At which time Miller left the scene on foot. Blood hounds were brought in to assist in the search but were unable to locate him. A warrant was issued for Miller’s arrest and resulted in him turning himself in on January 20, 2025. Miller was arrested and charged with Violation of Felony Probation, Fleeing a police officer and reckless driving.
When the citizens notify us of ongoing criminal activity in their neighborhood it becomes our responsibility to act; therefore we engage in proactive operations such as this stated Sheriff Fred Cole. The CCSO will continue to have a presence in the Green Acres area as well as other communities that fall in the outskirts of the county.
