Sex Offender Reincarcerated for Violation of Probation
The Coffee County Sheriff Office is issuing this public notice regarding the reincarceration of registered sex offender Howard Townsend.
On November 27, 2025, officers with the Douglas Police Department responded to a report of a naked male attempting to enter a residence in the area. Upon arrival, officers encountered Howard Townsend unclothed in the front yard and visibly disoriented. During contact, Townsend advised officers that he had not slept in two days. He was detained at the scene and transported to the Coffee County Pre Trial Detention Center for booking.
Townsend was charged with public indecency after being observed nude in a residential yard and clearly visible from the roadway. He was released on bond on November 28, 2025.
On December 2, 2025, probation officials issued warrants for violations of Townsend’s probation. On the morning of December 3, 2025, he was located, apprehended, and transported back to the Coffee County Pre Trial Detention Center.
In compliance with the Registry Mandate, this serves as an official Public Notice of the reincarceration of Howard Townsend, a registered sex offender originally convicted in 2011.
