Local Business Identifies suspect for identity theft
Coffee County, GA — The Coffee County Sheriff’s Office has arrested Elsy Stefany Sanchez Lopez following an investigation into identity theft and forgery.
Investigators determined that Lopez used fraudulent identification documents, including another individual’s Social Security card and identification, to obtain employment at local businesses between 2025 and 2026. The investigation revealed the use of multiple false identities. Once the fraudulent documentation was confirmed, the suspect was terminated from employment.
As a result of the investigation, Lopez has been charged with two counts of Identity Theft and two counts of Forgery.
“This case highlights the importance of safeguarding personal information and verifying identity during employment processes,” the Coffee County Sheriff’s Office stated. “We encourage anyone who believes their identity has been compromised to report it immediately.”
The investigation was conducted by the Coffee County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Division in coordination with the DICE Unit and federal partners. The suspect remains in custody, and additional charges may be forthcoming.
