Sex Offender in violation back behind bars
COFFEE COUNTY, GA— After being notified by Deputies with the Atkinson County Sheriff’s Office, the Coffee County Sheriff’s Office arrested David Jerome Taft, a registered sex offender, for failing to comply with Georgia’s sex offender registry requirements. Agents of the Coffee County Sex Offender Unit determined Taft moved from his registered Douglas address to a residence in Atkinson County on March 22, 2026, without providing the required 72-hour prior notification to law enforcement.
Taft was taken into custody on March 23, 2026, and transported to the Coffee County Jail. A warrant for Failure to Register Change of Address is being sought.
Sheriff Fred Cole stated, “Sex offender registration laws are strictly enforced. When offenders fail to comply, we will act swiftly to hold them accountable and protect our community. Our Sex offender unit is the absolute best in the state.”
