Absconded Michigan Sex Offender Arrested in Coffee County
Coffee County, GA – Detectives from the Coffee County Sheriff’s Office Sex Offender Unit have arrested Booker T. Rhem, a convicted sex offender absconded from the state of Michigan, after discovering he had been living in Coffee County without properly registering as required by Georgia law.
Detectives received information indicating that Rhem, who was previously listed as absconded from Michigan, had recently relocated to Coffee County and was residing at a residence in Douglas. During the investigation, it was determined that Rhem had been living in the county for approximately one month and was preparing to begin employment at a local business when he was taken into custody without incident.
Rhem has been charged with Failure to Register as a Sex Offender or Providing False Information and Residing Within 1,000 Feet of a Child Care Facility, School, or Similar Location, both felony violations under Georgia law. He has been served with warrants and remains behind bars at the Coffee County Pre-Trial Detention Center.
“I believe our sex offender unit is one of; if not- the best in the state. If you are sex offender and you come to this county, you will be compliant with the Registry’s rules, or you’ll be in jail.” Stated Sheriff Fred Cole.
The Coffee County Sheriff’s Office remains committed to protecting the community through strict enforcement of Georgia’s Sex Offender Registry laws.
