Open Records Request
RESOLUTION FOR THE PURPOSE OF NAMING AN OPEN RECORDS CUSTODIAN
AND AN ALTERNATE OPEN RECORDS CUSTODIAN FOR THE COFFEE
COUNTY SHERIFF'S OFFICE, AND FOR OTHER PURPOSES
WHEREAS, the provisions of the Georgia Open Records Act O.C.G.A 50-18-70 et seq. (hereinafter "the Act"), were amended by action of the Georgia General Assembly during its 2012 session; and,
WHEREAS, the Act allows for the appointment of an Open Records Custodian to whom all written requests for records must be made; and
WHEREAS, the Board of Commissioners of Coffee County, in consultation with the Coffee County Sheriff and Coffee County Clerk, have determined that it is in the best interest of the citizens and staff of Coffee County to establish a separate records custodian for managing requests for records to the Coffee County Sheriff's Office;
NOW, THEREFORE, pursuant to the provisions of the Act, the Coffee County Board of Commissioners does hereby resolve as follows:
The person designated by the Sheriff of Coffee County in the position of "Open Records Custodian for the Coffee County Sheriff's Office" will serve as the Open Records Custodian for the Coffee County Sheriff's Office;
The person designated by the Sheriff of Coffee County in the position of "Alternate Open Records Custodian for the Coffee County Sheriff's Office" will serve as the Alternate Open Records Custodian for the Coffee County Sheriff's office, to act in the Open Records Custodian's absence;
All written requests for records made under the Act directed to the County Sheriff's office shall be made to the Open Records Custodian for the Coffee County Sheriff's Office, or in his or her absence, to the Alternate Open Records Custodian for the Coffee County Sheriff's Office;
The County Administrator or his designee is directed to cause all County websites to prominently display this designation and requirement;
The County Administrator or his designee is directed to notify the Douglas Enterprise as the County legal organ and any other media regularly covering County matters of the content of this resolution;
The County Administrator or his designee is directed to notify all county employees and volunteers that any request made under the Act shall be directed to the Open Records Custodian or his or her alternate; and
This action shall be effective immediately upon approval by a majority of the Board of Commissioners.
