Arrests made in May’s HWY 221 Shooting
On May 4, 2025, deputies with the Coffee County Sheriff's Office responded to Coffee Regional Medical Center after two individuals arrived with gunshot wounds. The individuals, later identified as Takevion Strozier and a 15-year-old juvenile, were initially believed to be victims of a drive-by shooting on Highway 221 North.

Registered Sex Offender Arrested in Coffee County After Active Warrant Discovered
52 year old Larry David Chaney, a convicted sex offender, was complying with Georgia state law as outlined in O.C.G.A. 42-1-12, which mandates that individuals classified as sex offenders must register their residence and other required information with the sheriff’s office of the county in which they intend to live.
72-Year-Old Found with Drugs and Parole Warrant in Coffee County
On the evening of Sunday, May 11, 2025, deputies with the Coffee County Sheriff’s Office responded to a vehicle-related incident in the vicinity of Estlee Mercer Road and Peppercorn Road. Upon arrival and conducting a preliminary investigation, deputies identified the driver as 72-year-old Little Taft Roberson.

Arrest Made in Burglary at Local Business
Watkins claimed he was there to inspect for debris before grass cutting but could not provide a legitimate reason for his presence. He was transported to the Coffee County Pre-Trial Detention Center where he remains in custody.

Sheriff’s Office and DPD Narcotics Merger Yields Immediate Success
The recent merger of the Narcotics divisions between the Coffee County Sheriff’s Office and the City of Douglas Police Department, which officially took effect on May 1, 2025, has already demonstrated significant results. In the first week of combined operations, the newly unified Narcotics unit successfully seized $11,069 in cash, 91 grams of methamphetamine, 2 pounds of marijuana, and 6 firearms.

On Thursday, April 24, 2025, deputies with the Coffee County Sheriff's Office (CCSO) were involved in a high-speed pursuit that began with a routine traffic stop. At approximately 8:25PM, a deputy observed a vehicle traveling without headlights after dark [which is a chargeable offense in the state of Georgia] and attempted to initiate a stop.

In the early morning hours of Sunday, April 20, an individual unlawfully entered the dealer lot of the Diamond Cargo Plant in Coffee County and removed two cargo trailers without authorization. The suspect, operating a late-model red SUV, successfully departed the premises with stolen property valued in excess of $10,000.
